Can you see the Universe?

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

Have you ever wondered what are the things out there that we can see?

Let's start off with a simple example... The observed universe is one of the things that exist out there but we cannot see. We known it exists as our planet exists in our universe but can we actually see it ?

**

However let's assume that everything started with the Big Bang. If you wanna know more about how everything started I totally recommend to read the book "A brief history of time" from Stephen Hawking.

Of course, we know about the existence of other planets and their suns, the galaxy where our beloved earth belongs in-which is the Milky Way-, stars and nebulas. A simple search of those terms will bring up some sparkly images, especially those in high resolution that are usually set as a background image in peoples monitors.

Shouldn't we know a little bit more about those? Well if your answer to that was no, perhaps you are not curious enough for this blog, maybe check out last week's blog in Norwegian cuisine. Well if your answer was yes then welcome to the club and keep reading below.

The contents of the universe, for example the galaxies, have the ability to move, which is a bit different from how humans move. This is because astronomical laws differ from Newton's Laws of motion. Specifically, Quintana & Lawrie (1982) in their scientific study they describe peculiar velocities, you may read more about galaxies' motion through the original

study!

You are about to read the first fact fo this week. The word "Galaxy" has gotten its name from our own galaxy-the Milky Way-. If you dare, go ahead and translate the word "Milk" in Greek (make sure you hear how it is pronounced if you cannot read Greek.

Any translator will come up with the world "ΓΑΛΑ", which-as you already know now- it means milk. Therefore, our ΓΑΛΑxy is Milky way! (Wikipedia, 2020)

I don't know about you, but while writing this I remembered one of those movies I used to see during childhood, Treasure Planet from Disney. Of course this is all imaginary and has nothing to do with the point we discussed above. But I just feel it is very cool how Jim Pleiades Hawkins could open up the magic map of the galaxy and observe all surroundings.

Will close this blog similarly as to how we started. So do believe that know you know better what's out there, that we know it exists, but we can't really see with naked eye? If that blog partly answered you question wait until the text blog is up. The will talk about another well known thing that we don't get to see... the sub-atomic particles!

Thank you for reading!
